I’m from a non-Tech background, can I start my career in Data Science?

The most important trait among data scientists isn’t technical degrees or the amount of time spent in school. It’s the curiosity that pulls them to hard problems and again the curiosity that pulls out solutions and new insights from old datasets. If you’re good at mathematics and have good analytical skills, you can surely start a career in data science.

There will be more than 11 million job roles in Data Science by 2026. And there is a myth that these roles require you to have hardcore coding knowledge. While knowing basic programming will only benefit you, it is not necessary to know it from the beginning for many of these roles. The more you love data, the more it pulls you into this field to discover new patterns.

If you’re from a non-tech background, I would explain to you Data Scientists as someone who knows statistics more than the average programmer and knows to program more than the average statistician. That’s all you’ve to do to excel in your data science career, you don’t need to know hardcore coding nor you need to do heavy mathematics.

Believe it or not, you don’t need a degree to get your first job. The main key is working on real problems. You will definitely not know how to approach it in the beginning. But it is okay to shamelessly copy others’ code and understand what they have done line by line.

Anyone, including you and I, can become a data scientist if you’re motivated enough. After years of being frustrated with how conventional sites taught data science, I recently created Learn Everything Ai, a better way to learn data science online.
